Metro North is now operating partial Push-Pull shuttle service on the Danbury Branch replacing the CT Transit shuttle buses. Buses are still being used on the Waterbury Branch. Partial restoration of through electric service may be possible this weekend. Power provider Con Edison is planning to install three temporary substation transformers over the weekend to restore power on the de-electrified portion of the line to at least get Metro North and Amtrak trains moving again under their own power to and from New York terminals and New Haven and Boston. Service still would be Limited.
Reportedly permanent repairs are to take 2-3 weeks to complete. Connecticut Governor Danial P. Malloy wants repairs to be completed quicker and wants to know what caused this to happen since it was not storm or other form of nature damage. Gov. Malloy also wants safeguards in effect in the event of another power failure along other parts of the New Haven Line.
