New Harmony performs in Gurley as part of week ahead for Huntsville areah

Two churches have special events this week, including a concert. Also, several other events are planned in the community for the week ahead in Huntsville for April 7-13, 2013.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: New Harmony performs in Gurley

Gospel music group New Harmony, based in Huntsville, will perform in concert this Friday night, April 12, 2013. The concert will be held at Shipps Baptist Church, located at 346 Little Cove Road, in Gurley. The church is located east of the Little Cove Road intersection with Rock Cut Road. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.

Other events happening this week

SILENT AUCTION AND BAKE SALE will be held at the Charles McCay Fellowship Hall (across street from Shiloh UMC, 485 Ryland Pike, Huntsville, AL) on Saturday, April 13, 2013. It will begin at 6:30 pm with refreshments. Bidding will begin at 7:00 p.m. and continue until 8:00 p.m.

VICTORIA SHAW, country music singer and songwriter, will perform in concert at Merrimack Hall on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.

ALABAMA HAMMERS arena football team will be playing Albany in the Von Braun Center Arena on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The game will begin at 7 p.m.

BILLY THE KID, presented by Huntsville Ballet Company, will be performed at the VBC Concert Hall. Performances will be Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, at 7:15 p.m. There will also be a performance on Saturday, April 13, at 1:45 p.m.

THE WIZARD OF OZ will be presented by Huntsville High School's Theater Department on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. There will also be performances on Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m.

ALABAMA INVENTORS EXHIBIT will continue at Burritt on the Mountain through April 27th. Burritt on the Mountain is also hosting THE WHIMSICAL WOODS exhibit through the same time which features the settings of many fairy and historical stories.

SOUND AND VISION: MONUMENTAL ROCK AND ROLL PHOTOGRAPHY is one of several exhibits on display at the Huntsville Museum of Art. The HERITAGE QUILTERS OF HUNTSVILLE will host the grand opening of their annual exhibit later this week on Saturday at the museum.

THE U.S. SPACE AND ROCKET CENTER hosts several exhibits this month including an exhibit on BLACK HOLES. They will also host Saturday workshops for children 3-12.

ASTEROIDS will be the subject of the program at the planetarium at Monte Sano State Park this month. Shows will be on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Coming next week

Merrimack Hall will host a pet comedy show. Comedian Chondra Pierce will also perform in concert at the Von Braun Center.
