The Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition and the National Park Service are setting aside a 45-mile stretch of land as a natural refuge with hiking trails, water trails, parks, and open spaces from Jacinto City to Jersey Village. The Greens Bayou watershed includes the primary streams Greens Bayou, Halls Bayou, Garners Bayou, and Reinhardt Bayou in Houston and the surrounding communities north of Houston.
The communities affected by the new trail system include Houston, Jersey Village, Jacinto City, Galena Park, Humble, and unincorporated Harris County. A Grant from the National Park Service will allow for needed technical assistance in linking existing trails and recreational facilities with new trail sections and parks.
The support grant will help the Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition develop a strategic plan for the corridor, which stretches along the bayou. It will focus on parks, land and water trails, acquisition of adjacent open space, conservation and landscaping to help communities preserve their local resources, protect river resources, develop new trails, and create new natural areas.
