This will be the first community built to the United States Department of Energy Challenge Home standards and the first community in the nation built to ActiveHouse standards. Addison will begin construction of a total of sixteen ENERGY STAR-certified solar-ready homes in mid-September 2013 with pricing starting at the $250s.
Addison Homes President Todd Usher explains that the new homes will not only provide energy savings, elevated indoor air quality, comfort and durability, but these Zero Net Energy homes will go beyond that, having been designed to create as much energy as they consume. All of the homes Usher builds are to ENERGY STAR®,
EarthCraft House™ and/or DOE Challenge Home standards, so his company is well-experienced in green building and does it at a reasonable price.
The Zero Net Energy (ZNE) home using ultra-energy-efficient design, the latest green construction techniques, and high-performance products and systems, first lowers energy usage then adds an external energy source such as solar or geothermal to meet and often exceed the home's energy needs, with any surplus sold back to the public electrical grid. The home does not look any different from traditional building on its exterior, but its utility bills and the carbon emissions it puts back into the air are much lower.
The 17.5 mile Swamp Rabbit Trail has become a popular biking, walking and jogging path connecting Travelers Rest, SC with downtown Greenville. Read the article below about the trail. Trailside, located off Watkins Bridge Road, will have perfect access to it plus be close to all the amenities and activities offered at nearby Furman University.
