On Monday, December 16 TVLine posted news that actress Linda Cardellini has been cast as the sister of Jessica Day on "New Girl," the FOX comedy about a woman who moves in with three male roommates she finds on Craigslist after a breakup in Los Angeles. Cardellini will have a recurring role on the series, and her character Abby is the polar opposite of Jess.
Cardellini is most known for playing the roles of Lindsay Weir on the cult television show "Freaks and Geeks," and on the long running medical drama "ER" as Samantha Taggart for six seasons. Cardellini most recently landed a recurring role on the AMC drama "Mad Men" as Don Draper's neighbor.
Her most notable film role was as Velma Dinkley in the live-action "Scooby-Doo" films based on the popular cartoon. She also had roles in "Legally Blonde," "Brokeback Mountain" and "Grandma's Boy" as well as many independent films. Cardellini also appeared in many stage productions and worked with the comedy group Dr. God.
"New Girl" stars Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day, Jake Johnson as Nick Miller, Max Greenfield as Schmidt, Lamorne Morris as Winston Bishop and Hannah Simone as Cecillia Parekh. The description of the role of Jess' sister Abby is described as a "wild child" and it's unclear how many episodes the character will be appearing in. The series will return from hiatus on Tuesday, January 7 at 9:30 p.m. on FOX.
