YouTube views are at an all-time high, with more and more people checking out tuning in. Whether they're checking out their favorite YouTube channel, browsing for the next viral video, or watching the latest music video, audiences are loving having YouTube at their fingertips.
Maker Studios, the company that broadcasts the very popular comedian Kassem G, daily vlogger ShayCarl, also known for his Shaytards channel, and more, were at SXSW 2013 to speak to their fans and share how their company works. With over 10, 000 channels, Maker Studios currently has 165 million subscribers and counting.
"I'm Kassem G and I make YouTube videos...for a living," Kassem G introduces himself, saying the last part almost in disbelieve. The major difference between television and online videos is that users (actors) are able to select their own schedule and post them whenever they'd like. It's like being your own boss and your job is being yourself, being creative.
As ShayCarl states, "Creating that audience and having that ownership over content and creativity is paramount. We can do whatever we want. I woke up with a song on my head and I thought ‘I would like to make a music video about this song’ I can go to Maker, grab some cameras and it’s possible.”
