As the title suggests, Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) ask Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) to go on a double date with them. Winston (Lamorne Morris) feels left out and wants an invitation and after the group hesitates, he promises he can get them a reservation at an impossible to get into restaurant on short notice.
But where they’re going to eat is the least of Schmidt’s problems. He’s been secretly dating Elizabeth (Merritt Wever) at the same time he’s seeing Cece and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by Cece that he’s been acting strange. She mentions her concerns to Nick and Jess and the girls decide that Nick should talk to Schmidt.
Naturally, Nick being Nick doesn’t think that’s a good idea, but he’s quickly outvoted. Schmidt is eager to get the dilemma off his chest and he fills his best friend in on what’s really bothering him. But that puts Nick in a terrible spot because the one thing Schmidt insists on is that he can’t say anything to Jess.
What will Nick do? Will he keep Schmidt’s secret or tell his girlfriend the truth? Will Winston really be able to get them a table on time? How much longer can Schmidt keep lying to Cece and Elizabeth?
