While most people today were watching the AFC championship Jets vs. Colts game the Global Energy Management (GEM) cohort met at the Westin Hotel in the Denver Tabor Center for their first quarterly session of the GEM Masters Degree Program offered through the University of Colorado Denver. The cohort meets once a quarter in Denver, Colorado for four full days of meetings and completes the majority of the coursework through online education.
John pointed out that the GEM Program is a part of the Business School of UC Denver and offers a MS degree in Global Energy Management. This degree is a hybrid online program that runs on a calendar quarter basis. GEM combines four days of face to face classes at the start of each quarter with the remaining ten weeks being completed online. John also is associated with a private company that works with institutions and organizations to develop and deliver online education for continuing education, certification programs, or special courses using the synergies gained through online education.
John introduced me to Deborah Wise, Assistant Director of Online Programs, who demonstrated the capabilities of GEM and the interactive learning environment accomplished by the technology the institute employs. Deborah explained how she utilizes online social networks to promote the program. She also demonstrated their website.
The GEM program has been supported by various energy industries, including the oil and gas industry, and educational institutions. I recommend using the website as a resource to explore and learn about the energy industry.
