New Florida legislation means $121 million tax cut

Governor Rick Scott signed legislation that will cut more than $121 million in taxes. This legislation creates a number of tax holidays including for the purchase of hurricane supplies, back to school supplies and energy efficient appliances. It means tax exemptions on child car seats, youth bicycle helmets, college meal plans, therapeutic pet foods and cement mixes and it reduces the taxes paid on electricity, according to May 12 statement from the Office of Governor Rick Scott.

In the statement, Governor Rick Scott was quoted as saying, “This year we worked to promote a $500 million reduction in taxes and fees because Florida families should keep more of the money they earn,” said Governor Scott.

This legislation will help many businesses. “I think is good because now more people will have more money to spend and this means more money for businesses. This means businesses can hire more people,” said Stephanie Anderson.
