The Monterey Peninsula is bulging with talented, creative people. Beginning in September, I will be adding a new feature to my Monterey History and Art Column.—Artist of the Month. Each month I will feature one artist who lives and works on the Peninsula and surrounding communities, and feature them for a month, giving interesting information about the artists and featuring some examples of their artwork, events, and activities.

In September, 2014 the Artist of the Month is Patricia (Trish) Triumpho Sullivan, a multi-faceted artist and community organizer. Sullivan describes herself as a teaching artist and and arts administrator. I chose Patricia Triumpho Sullivan because of her versatility, commitment to supporting and building the local arts community, and because of this being the 10th anniversary of Salinas’ 1st Friday Art Walk—a monthly event founded and organized by Sullivan.

On Friday, September 5, Patricia Triumpho Sullivan and the town of Salinas will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Salinas 1st Friday Art Walk. Trish is both the founder and organizer of this (and other) arts organization, and is responsible for the event's success and longevity. Look for more about September’s Artist of the Month in the upcoming articles featuring Patricia Triumpho Sullivan, the Artist of the Month.
