New entry in Batman's 'Arkham' series slated for this year (Photos)

Fans of the popular Batman "Arkham" series are in for a treat this year as a recent earnings report to investors from Time Warner mentions a new game on the horizon. Mentioned only briefly, halfway through the report, CFO and CAO John K. Martin promises "a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise."

Not much else is known about the property, though within the last month Time Warner registered several Batman-themed domains including "Arkham Universe," "Arkham Legends," and "Arkham Stories." Feel free to speculate in the comments below what these titles might suggest, or which of these might be the most likely successor to 2011's "Batman: Arkham City."

"Batman: Arkham City" was released October, 18 2011 and is currently available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, WiiU, PC and Mac. It's predecessor, "Batman: Arkham Asylum" is available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac. The series has won numerous awards including Gamesradar.com's 2009 Game of the Year, as well as numerous Spike TV video game awards and an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records as "Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever."
