It took Darrelle Revis roughly four hours to break the heart of Jets’ fans on Wednesday night. After being released by the 4 p.m. deadline by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Revis agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots.

According to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the deal is worth one year and $12 million. Revis will take the place of Aqib Talib, who just left the Patriots to join the Denver Broncos.

It wasn’t a certainty that Darrelle Revis would land in New England as Tampa Bay had plans to trade him. However, with the hefty price tag that came along with Revis’ ability, not one NFL team was going to go out on the limb to bring him into camp.

Adding Revis to the mix should help immensely with the Patriots’ secondary. In fact, according to the rankings, Revis is an upgrade to the corner position.

The Jets were intrigued with the possibility of bringing Darrelle Revis back to New York, but if it was meant to be, they wouldn’t have traded him to Tampa in the first place. It could be a blessing in disguise that the Jets didn’t reconnect with Revis for his second stint with the organization.

New England had no choice but to bring in a big time replacement for Talib. However, they still seem to be in the same situation as last year.
