New England braces for major winter storm

See also

A potent late-winter storm will wallop New England with heavy snow on Wednesday and Thursday with accumulations as high as 12 to 18 inches in parts of the Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Computer forecast models are still in disagreement with the exact track of the center of low pressure; however, the general track should move along a line from Cincinnati OH to Pittsburgh PA to just to New York City to Boston. This track will keep all of the coastal plain from Washington to Boston in the warm sector of the storm. Consequently, all of the precipitation will fall in the form of rain (Boston may begin and end as snow.) There is a slight chance that Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington could see a change over to snow showers at the end of the storm when colder air wraps around the departing area of low pressure.

Cities like Albany NY, Bennington VT, Brattleboro VT, Manchester NH, and southern & coastal portions of Maine will be on the dividing line between rain to the south and heavy snow to the north. These areas may still pick up an accumulation of wet snow, but there may be periods of sleet, freezing rain, or even rain at various points during the storm. Heavy snow in northern New England will be accompanied by gusty winds. This may cause power outages in some areas.
