New England All Star: Shark Week #1987 (Photos)

So I have always known about Boston. I’ve always liked Boston. Until Regionals this past fall, though, I never really WATCHED Boston. Oh. I know what’s up now. There are so many talented skaters on the roster, but the one who caught my attention? SHARK WEEK.

Those powerful, powerful thighs...

Only in the world of roller derby would that be a cry of admiration and adoration. Shark Week really does prowl around the track, snatching up unsuspecting opponents like baby seals. It is a glorious thing to watch her unadulterated strength and abilty.

When you mention the name Shark Week in the derby community, you can see a skater’s eyes mix with fear and crush. Shark Week is kind of like the East Coast’s Demanda Riot – we don’t know whether we want to make out with her awesomeness, or cower away from her cool demeanor and tremendous power on the track.

I’m sorry, am I getting too graphic? Am I being a little too transparent about the Derby Crush? Too bad. I can’t wait for Boston v Montreal. Bring it on, 2013.

Shark Week has become one of Boston’s fiercest blockers in a very short time. She is smart, strong and my only complaint is that she started playing roller derby at least one year too late, I would have enjoyed skating with her. – Xena Paradox, Charm City Rollergirls

Here goes: Shark Week is frankly terrifying. I've seen the girl pick fully grown women up with her shoulder blades and toss the out of bounds like seagulls drop mussels to break them. I've also been that cracked shell on the side of the track. It's as brutal as it looks. She is an excellent sport and a fierce competitor and I think I'm pretty smitten with my Shark Week. Also, best derby name ever. – Lil Paine, Boston Massacre
