The Drury Plaza Hotel in Santa Fe will be opening its doors on August 4th, the first new hotel to do so in downtown Santa Fe in more than 18 years. The Drury has given new life to a venerable landmark, the original 1954 territorial-style St. Vincent Hospital building, now remodeled and part of a state of the art resort style property that retains the timeless atmosphere of historic Santa Fe.
The hotel is set on five acres at the corner of E. Palace Avenue and Paseo de Peralta, two blocks from the center of downtown Santa Fe. The land has been revitalized, along with the historic structures, and now features gardens and a pedestrian promenade set with small plazas and lined with flowering trees leading through Cathedral Park to the iconic Santa Fe Plaza.
The 182-room property will be a full-service hotel with a restaurant, a 3,800 square foot ballroom adding to a total of 17,000 square feet of meeting space, and a year-round, solar-heated, rooftop pool with expansive views of the Southern Rocky Mountains. The hotel will also feature retail and gallery space, a large underground parking garage, a Wedding Grove in a lovely stand of newly planted trees and a sculpture garden at the entrance.
Of particular interest is the new restaurant created by Santa Fe native and award-winning chef John Rivera Sedlar. Named Eloisa after Sedlar’s grandmother–also a professional chef–the restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week serving Chef Sedlar’s contemporary versions of the foods he first ate as a child. Sedlar was named “The Father of Modern Southwest Cuisine” by Gourmet magazine, 2011’s “Chef of the Year” by Esquire magazine, and his Los Angeles restaurant Rivera, was acclaimed one of the “Best New Restaurants of 2011.”
Combining a vintage façade and contemporary interior design, the Drury is a distinctive addition to Santa Fe’s notable lodging choices. The Drury Plaza will offer a free hot breakfast buffet, complimentary adult beverages and light snacks at the 5:30 Kickback®, free, property-wide wireless internet, accessible business centers, remote printing and complimentary fitness center.
