There are six new charter schools opening in Denver Public Schools this fall:
- Envision Leadership Prep will open on August 17th with grades 6 and 9. The school will build out in four years with grades 6 through 12.
- KIPP Denver Collegiate High School is opening this month. KIPP currently offers the Sunshine Peak Academy for grades 5 through 8 in DPS.
- Justice High School is a replication of the successful school serving at risk students in Boulder.
- Cesar Chavez Academy is the fifth school in a network of schools in Pueblo and Colorado Springs. The Denver campus will serve students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and opens August 19th.
- Manny Martinez Middle School opens this fall, serving grades 6 through 8 and is an Edison Learning school.
- West Denver Prep is opening a second campus this fall in Denver. They serve grades 6 through 8 but will serve grade 6 only at the new campus this year.
I will be visiting two of these schools in the next couple of weeks and hope to visit more. I'm looking forward to bringing you exciting news about their openings and what they're doing with kids. Best of luck to the new schools in '09 and beyond!
