We've been eagerly awaiting more information regarding Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, with our hands-on experience at E3 having felt like ages ago. Nintendo released a new trailer earlier this afternoon, showcasing the crazy platforming gameplay that made Returns such a thrilling ride.
The main feature shown today was the return of Dixie Kong. As seen at E3, Dixie plays a bit differently than she did during the 16-bit era. Instead of gently gliding down to the surface, she now offers a temporary boost in altitude. Besides that, she seems to play very much as she used to, though she no longer picks objects up with her hair.
The trailer shows her and Donkey Kong running together, with her acting as a power-up in single player, like Diddy was in Returns. She can also be controlled independently by a second player. Judging by the fact that her and Diddy never appear onscreen together, it seems players have a choice between those two Kongs, though Retro has not confirmed this. There was also no sign of the rumored fourth playable character or whether the game will support more than two players at a time.
The high octane Rocket Barrel levels are returning in this title, as well as the stylized silhouette stages. The new trailer also shows off an underwater section, something that was missing from the Wii release. With the game looking this promising, it's a shame that it was delayed from its original November release date. It is currently set to launch in February of 2014 for the Wii U.
