Last summer, the Mallozzi Group announced it would open a downtown Schenectady restaurant named Johnny's. Today we were told the opening date for its latest project -- Friday, March 29.
The company describes Johnny's as "a classic Italian restaurant." (Some say that raises the number of Italian restaurants in the city to more than 32 gazillion.)
The new venture, located at 433 State Street, opposite Proctors, is named for Johnny Mallozzi, one of the family members running the restaurant and catering organization. He will be the executive chef.
The 6,000-square-foot venue will seat 120, with a 30-seat bar and 30 bar table seats, plus a seasonal patio seating 40.
The Mallozzi Group also has Villa Italia in Schenectady, Treviso at the Italian American Community Center in Albany, Mallozzi’s Ballroom & Catering and the Belvedere Hotel in Rotterdam, and The Clubhouse at the Western Turnpike Golf Course in Guilderland. It shuttered its Brown Derby in Albany last summer.
