Update 9/7/13: The following update was shared from 100+Abandoned dogs of Everglades Florida on Friday afternoon:
They are eating well and receiving supplements. Duchess has already gained 5 pounds! She was bathed today, all the old tape gum soaked off her ears and they look so much better. She is sporting a new harness with our signature purple for royalty and is really doing great. Puppy has gained just over a pound and her bloated tummy has gone away since receiving her worming treatment. All is well.
Another day has passed and there is a now new development in the case of "Dutchess," the starved Doberman in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.,
Hopes for the emaciated pup's future were dashed on Wednesday afternoon when it was announced that the dog had been seen by a veterinarian, and then released back to her owners' custody.
On Thursday, things changed yet again - this time in the dog's favor.
Within the last 30 minutes, a new announcement was issued by the rescue agency, 100+ Abandoned dogs of Everglades Florida:
ARRESTED AND IN CUSTODY... BOTH OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amy is there now. Street is swamped with cop cars and BOTH CRIMINALS have been arrested!! The woman was fighting with the cops with her child in her arms, the child was taken from her arms. Apparently she has an active restrainer order against Danthony, so she is now in violation. Both dogs were removed from the home and on their way to animal control. We will share further details later, and video footage to follow.
According to the Broward Palm Beach Times, is unclear exactly why the couple was arrested.
Nationwide interest has been directed towards the welfare of Dutchess following a photo which was posted on Facebook showing how frail and weak she appeared to be while stretched out in her owner's yard.
