If you're looking for a New Decade's Resolution that will help others, enrich your life, and support the arts, then tear up that orphanage check and just go see some live music.
Think you don't need to?
Think tickets are too expensive?
Think it'd be better to just stay in and get to bed early?
You're wrong. I can't count the number of times that some great live act (Deadmau5, The Octopus Project, The Faint) has come to town only to hear my friends say that they'd just prefer not to go. That they'd rather just drink.
Here's the deal though, if you like a musician, and listen to them, and didn't pay anything for their music (that's probably most of you), then you owe it to that musician to see them live. Period.
I don't know if you've heard, but the music industry is in trouble. Your favorite indie musicians make music for you, it's their job. But if you're not going to pay them anything to be a band...well that's why Of Montreal had to do that Outback Steakhouse jingle.
So in this next decade more than ever, go see bands you like when they come to town, or stop listening to them. Nobody likes a mooch.
