A new dad was killed by a stray bullet while celebrating the birth of his baby's homecoming. According to Huffington Post, 33-year-old Steven Justin Ayers, 33, and his wife, Jessica Ayers, were at their home in Panama City, Florida. The couple were entertaining guests, many of whom were meeting their 3-day-old baby for the very first time. Around 6 p.m., a stray bullet entered the family's home and hit Justin Ayers in the back of the head. He was killed immediately.
"Deputies believe the bullet came from a handgun fired by 62-year-old Charles Edward Shislerr whose home is directly behind Ayers,' according to the Jackson County Floridian. Police think Shisler fired from inside his house and that the shot flew through a sliding glass door in Ayers' home."
The new dad killed by the stray bullet didn't have any time to react; Everything happened so fast. Shislerr, a convicted felon, told police that his gun went off by mistake. He said that the gun "usually doesn't shoot" and that you have to "squeeze the hell out of the trigger" to get it to go off. Apparently police didn't look at this case as an accident of any kind. Shislerr was charged with manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The handgun was taken from Shislerr's home and will undoubtedly be used as evidence in the case against him.
According to the report, Shislerr was previously convicted of carrying a concealed firearm, this was back in 2006.
Details about the new dad killed by the stray bullet were not immediately available. Obviously this is a very difficult time for Justin's wife and the rest of their family.
