Cuttting edge spa treatments and the hot, new  beauty products highlighted the annual  Spa Magazine Spring Event, held at the Montage Hotel Beverly Hills last week.

The head-turning  affair featured glam spas and cosmetics companies offering mini samplings of their treatments and spa products while waiters served libations and hors d'oeuvres to a mostly media crowd

Back in the day,   a massage was well, just a massage, ditto for facials and herbal wraps.
That was before spas amped up their treatment menus with multi-faceted, exotic procedures designed to relax, rejuvenate, cleanse, detox and some, even "turn back the hands of time."
The new spa speak--touted at this year's Spa Magazine's Spring Event--includes techniques such as Chuan Body + Soul and the Five Elements (offered at the Montage Hotel Spa in Beverly Hills); Journeys Healthy Body Balance, Rites of Passage and Mii amo Master on the list at Mii Amo at Enchantment, a destination spa in Sedona Boynton Canyon. There's scrubs from the Dead Sea, hot rock rubs, Maternity massages, foot, scalp and head rubs,

The Travel Diva sampled a new treatment from Terranea Spa (one of the spa sponsors), it felt so good (see photo).

I spoke with Sheila Cluff, owner/founder The Oaks at Ojai, who always shows up for the event looking fit as ever. This year Sheila was promoting her new menu and cutting edge treatments. She even brought samples of her chef's yummy, 52.6 calorie dessert, a divine chocolate mousse made with tofu. The Oaks at Oaji. ww.oaksspa.com.

Miraval Spa--a trend-setting, transcendental facility in Tucson, Arizona, also introduced its "ground breaking treatments." www.miravalresorts.com

Glen Ivy Hot Springs in SoCal, a 150-yea-old rejuvenation spa promoted the red clay mud baths, underground moisturizing cabes and massages done under oak trees. www.glenivy.com.

The Huntingon Spa at the Langham Huntingon formerly a Ritz Carlton featured its facelift and the Chaun Body + Soul philosophy that incorporates traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture and cupping) for a holistical experience. www.thehuntingtonspa.com.

Representatives from Kohler Waters Spa were on hand to promote its 10 year old facility which focuses on, you guess it, water treatments that cleanse the mind and body. www.destinationkohler.com.

One healthy getaway I am very familiar with, The Spa at The Grand Del Mar, touted the variety of natural therapies gleaned from resources of near by Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve (which we checked out and hiked through on our last visit). This is one fab spa with top notch treatments. www.thegranddelmar.com.

And the host hotel, Montage, escorted guests to their spiffy spa for a salubrious hand, exfoliation treatment.

Besides bags filled with swag, press kits and information, the event left us raring to go to a spa. The sooner, the better.
