This week, popular Canadian whisky maker, Crown Royal, unveiled “Reign On,” the company’s largest-ever ad campaign. Created by notable ad agency, Grey, the “Reign On” advertisements will span broadcast, digital, and print mediums. One of the three television ads features non-other than NBA legend Dr. J (Julius Erving). The good Dr. can be seen emerging from the infamous purple Crown Royal bag into a trendy bar, upon which he orders himself a whisky cocktail amidst flashes of some of his most legendary plays. The other two television ads feature a lion and an angel. In the lion spot, the beast is featured sauntering down a packed bar, confidently reigning over the evening. Drinking responsibly is the topic of the ad featuring the angel, which illustrates an admirable way to “Reign On” by not drinking and driving.
The “Reign On” campaign is meant to be a celebratory sentiment, one that encourages its consumers to celebrate successes stemming from hard work, whether that success is in the form of a game winning basketball shot to a legendary evening at the club.
