A Detroit woman accused of stabbing her own daughter to death was declared incompetent to stand trial. But the prosecution won a partial victory Wednesday when the judge granted a request for an independent competency report with a new hearing scheduled for May.
The first report was issued by the state Center for Forensic Psychiatry. The prosecution argued that it was flawed.
Tameria Greene, 8, was found dead in her home on Larned near downtown Detroit last December 30. The child died from a single knife wound to the chest.
Her 4-year-old brother told authorities their mother had committed the murder.
Semeria Greene, 27, was arrested in January.
Shortly before the murder, a court had ruled against a state attempt to remove Semeria’s five children from her home. Tameria’s four younger brother’s, ages 7, 4, 2, and 1, are currently in the care of Child Protective Services.
Greene is being held without bond.
The judge also ruled today that pending the May 29 competency hearing, Greene will be held in the psych section of the Wayne County jail rather than in a mental facility.
