New comic book releases for 12/24/13. That’s right, new comic releases for Tuesday! Due to Christmas day falling on Wednesday this year, comic releases come one day early for those looking for a last minute stocking stuffer. The downside…the list is a little short on releases, but that shouldn’t deter you from taking a trip down to your local comic shop to pick up a few last minute reads for the holiday week. So, let’s take a look at what rolls out on the 24th. First up the Doctor is in with IDW Publishing and the Doctor Who Special 2013 #1 (Paul Cornell, Jimmy Braxton), a special one shot celebrating the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. Next up Image Comics has a little something cooked up by Eisner Award winner James Robinson and J. Bone that brings space invader horror to the comic page in The Saviors #1 (James Robinson, J. Bone). Maybe you are in the mood for some nostalgic 80’s anime action. Dynamite Entertainment has what you need in this release that brings two classics together. We are talking about Robotech Voltron #1 (of 5) (Tommy Yune, Elmer Damaso). Not one to be outdone, DC Comics has presence on the shelf this week with Forever Evil #4 (Geoff Johns, David Finch, Richard Friend) and Justice League #26 (Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, and various artist) and all out supervillain action. Hot on their heels is Marvel Comics with a few titles on stands this week. The next chapter in the saga of fan favorite character Wolverine unfolds with Origin II #1 (of 5) (Kieron Gillen, Adam Kubert). Want more heroes on the page? Then maybe pick up what Marvel is considering issue #1 of the next installment for the popular team The Avengers, Avengers #24.Now (Jonathan Hickman, Esad Ribic). Dark Horse Comics has bladed battles from two different titles this week in two packed offerings. Conan TP Vol 14 The Death (Brian Wood, Becky Cloonan, Dave Stewart, Massimo Carnevale & Various other artist) the title for you if you want some savage pulpy fantasy storytelling. In more of a mood for something set in a “galaxy far, far away”. Then hit the shelves and snatch up Star Wars Omnibus: Knights Of The Old Republic Vol. 2 (John Jackson Miller, Michael Atiyeh, Colin Wilson, Brian Ching & Various artist). Finally to end things with a “BANG” Boom Studios has two titles. Deceivers #1 (Steven Grant, Stéphane Roux) has an underdog story with Robin Hood style storytelling that promises to be a fun read. With the time of the year closing out with a kind of magic in the air, this fairy tale style story is a sure fire bet in Fairy Quest Outlaws TP (Paul Jenkins, Humberto Ramos). So with that, we close out with “Until the next episode, Happy Holidays to All…and to all A Good Night”!
