New comic book releases 1/30/13 (Photos)

New comic book releases 1/30/13. Hitting shelves this week are a slew of titles and by no means does this list reflect the total spectrum of all that is available. To discover some of those often overlooked gems, be sure to take a trip to your local comic shop and show a little love for the indie comic scene. In the meantime, check out some of this week’s titles. Marvel Comics brings some sci-fi action with The Silver Surfer in Silver Surfer by Stan Lee & Moebius #1 (one shot), which collects Silver Surfer Parable #1-2 (creative team Stan Lee, Moebius). Galactus, the world eater, has plans for mankind and only the Surfer can stop him (for those not in the know about this cosmic villian, check out the associated video for a brief 411). Batfans should consider picking up DC Comics Batman: The Dark Knight #16 as it welcomes new series artist Ethan Van Sciver (with fellow creative team member Gregg Hurwitz) Dark Horse Comics brings some genre mashing titles to the stage in the form of Orchid #12 (the series finale from creative team Tom Morello, Scott Hepburn, Dan Jackson and cover art by Massimo Carnevale. This issue also includes a free muscial score!) and some sci-fi-horror-action/adventure with R.I.P.D.: City of the Damned #3 (creative team: Peter Lenkov, Jeremy Barlow, Tony Parker, Michelle Madsen and cover art by Dave Wilkins ) This title serves as a prequel to the upcoming feature film starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges and looks incredible! (check out the preview pages in the associated slide show). Finally, for those who enjoy a good read with a basis in history, I recommend checking out IDWs: The Original Johnson (Some of the industries best! creative team: Trevor Von Eeden, George Freeman, Mike Gold, Glen Hauman and contributions by Justin Eisinger). This one is not a new release, but features some of the most incredible art and story telling that I promise will draw you in. You can check it out for free over on ComicMix.com or better yet purchase hard copies over on Amazon (Volume 1 and Volume 2), they are worth adding to your library. That just about does it for this week, so be sure to make your way to your local comic shop to show some love and be sure to stack them high (you've got to have enough reading material to last until next week!)
