The public consultation that was started December 2010 by the STM (Societe de transport de Montreal) has drawn the attention of some 30.000 people who voted for the new design of the up-coming metro cars. The choice fell upon the rather resembling look of the current livery: Option 1, the obvious winner, voted by one out of every two people, has a metallic finish gradually turning to blue.

“A classic look deeply entrenched in the day-to-day reality of transit users, which is also why the colour blue, favoured by Montrealers, dominates the three design options. Thus, the cars’ exterior design is a reflection of their modernity, as they will feature state-of-the-art technologies successfully proven in other large cities”, declared Michel Labrecque, the Chairman of the STM Board of Directors.

The STM plans to turn again to the public voice into choosing a nickname for its new rolling stock. At the end of March 2011, the transit agency will call upon the creativity of transit users on its official portal.
