The latest increment in the creation and expansion of Troy's City Station downtown complex officially took place today.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this morning for the new Stir It Up Coffeehouse at 1521 Sixth Avenue. It originally had been targeted for a November 2012 opening, but construction delays put that off until mid-January, when it began operating in soft-opening mode.
Mayor Lou Rosamilia, Downtown Troy BID Executive Director Elizabeth Young, and other city and business figures attended today's ceremony along with business operator Rick VanVorst.
Stir It Up serves various coffees, teas, paninni and other sandwiches (including breakfast sandwiches), soups and fresh-baked goods. It also offers free wi-fi.
City Station is a bold, 14-acre development project of land near the city police headquarters, originally known as the Congress-Ferry Street Corridor. The first phase of the project, which consists of 48 graduate student apartments plus street-level commercial space, opened last summer. The second phase is presently under construction.
