New Clippers get closer to debuting after Baron Davis passes physical

On Monday night against the Sacramento Kings, the Clippers may finally get some much-needed help.  Newly acquired point guard Mo Williams and forward Jamario Moon got closer to making their debuts for Los Angeles after news broke that Baron Davis passed his physical.

Williams and Moon came to the Clippers after being traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Baron Davis and a 2011 first round pick.  The new Clippers successfully completed their physicals, so it was up to Davis to reciprocate.

Davis underwent the physical on Saturday in Cleveland, but the pending results meant that Williams and Moon could not play against the Celtics that evening in Los Angeles.

Davis has been hampered by a sore left knee, which has affected his performances in his last two outings in a Clippers uniform.  Prior to All-Star Weekend, Davis scored only six points off 1-for-8 shooting in 32 minutes of play during a 98-90 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He followed this up with another subpar performance after All-Star Weekend—two points off 1-for-8 shooting, as the Clippers got routed 111-88 by the Oklahoma City Thunder.  The following night against the New Orleans Hornets, Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro opted to keep Davis out of the lineup.

Of course, later that evening, the Clippers agreed in principle to trade Davis.

Davis cited the Clippers’ 11-game road trip, the second longest in NBA history, as the source of his knee problems.

"On the road trip, each and every game, it was becoming more and more swollen,” said Davis before the Clippers played the Hornets last Wednesday.  “I was just trying to battle through the road trip and get through to the weekend so I could get back on therapy and get an amount of rest.”

The Clippers did not practice on Sunday, so the inclusion of Williams and Moon in the Clippers lineup is still not definite for Monday night’s game.
