The new cast for this season of DWTS was announced on Good Morning America. One new change, Erin Andrews will be the new co-host replacing Brooke Burke Charvet. Erin Andrews will bring new excitement to the ballroom. Each season, those who pick the stars for their show go out of their way to make a unique and fun dancing competition that the whole family can watch. In earlier seasons, for the young audience, there have been dancers from the Disney channel's original shows and Olympic gymnasts. For older audiences, there have been actors and actresses who always warm our hearts, such as Florence Henderson. This season, the cast recruits again did an amazing job of creating an eclectic cast.
To begin, Danica McKellar from 'The Wonder Years' and Candice Cameron Bure from "Full House', both were child actors ready to try on their dancing shows as adults. Cody Simpson is an Australian pop singer who is almost perfectly matched with James Maslow who is a singer/actor from the show and band 'Big Time Rush'.
The next two actors hold at least two generations of audiences between them, the first being Billy Dee Williams, hugely known for his role in the Star Wars trilogies. Close to him as a star is Drew Carey, from 'The Drew Carey Show' and 'Whose Line is it Anyway' and currently is the new host of 'The Price is Right'. Of course, we cannot ever pass over the Real Housewife of Atlanta herself, NeNe Leakes, who also had been on the Donald Trump show, 'Celebrity Apprentice'. NeNe Leakes is always a force to be reckoned with, but now we get to see how she does on the dance floor.
Now, it seems that maybe in lieu of the ending of the Winter Olympics, the cast has a number of athletes in the mix. Some believe that being athletic gives them an extra edge, but putting anyone into dancing shoes, whether a gentleman's dress or a dancer's heel, precision, footwork and timing is a whole other ballgame. Diana Nyad is a world champion swimmer and may be most notable for her swim from Cuba to Florida in one shot. Sean Avery is a former pro-hockey player and model. The next two were ice dancing as a pair for years, including winning the Gold two weeks ago in ice dancing at the Sochi Olympics. But now, they have been separated and are paired with new partners and are given shoes instead of skates. They are Charlie White and Meryl Davis and we will see what they can do outside of the rink.
Last, but definitely not least, is an amazing Para-Olympian, currently on the US Para-Olympics Snowboarding team, Amy Purdy. Amy Purdy is not only #2 as an international snowboarder, but is the only double-amputee on the snowboarding team. Amy Purdy will also be the first double amputee to be a contestant on DWTS, but as you can see, being a double amputee does not stop Amy from anything. Her bravery, strength and determination will shine brighter than the lights on the dance floor.
This is going to be one exciting season of Dancing With the Stars, time to break out our dancing shoes!
