Craft Beer always seems to go hand in hand with riding a bike. Oskar Blues opened up recently with their own mountain bike company, Reeb, retailing high quality, American made frames to adventure athletes. New Belgium has several events geared towards the cyclist adventurer as well, the next one being the Urban Assault Ride on July 22nd in Denver.
Now in its 10th year, New Belgium's Urban Assault Ride is a city-wide scavenger hunt/ obstacle course spread all over Denver. Teams of two find the best way to ride from one challenge to the next. Unlike many races, the Urban Assault Ride has no set course and leaves the route-finding up to cyclists.
The goal of the event is, ultimately, to get participants to use their bikes to navigate the city long after the race is over.
Event founder Jos Kravetz says "Our main goal is to create the best possible day on a bike…Since riders have to plan their own course around town, they end up teaching themselves safe riding routes." Not to mention that cycling around town can save on gas, reduce carbon emissions, and in some cases save you time and money on parking a car.
Interested? Registration is currently available online through July 20th. THERE IS NO DAY OF REGISTRATION. Teams of two can register at the Urban Assault Ride website. The registration fee includes a race-day shirt, a donation to the charities UAR works with, and access to the New Belgium after party featuring all sorts of raffles, giveaways, and tasty brews.
