New Belgium Brewing has had quite the 2014 so far this year, and to continue their strong first handful of months, they have announced their new summer seasonal offering called Summer Helles.

New seasonals have been the name of the game for New Belgium lately, their spring offering Spring Blonde followed the new winter release of Accumulation Ale, and Summer Helles is the newest summer seasonal to hit stores.

Summer Helles is an interesting beer for more than just its taste.

It was originally created to help celebrate the Telluride Bluegrass Festival's 40th anniversary, as well as the 40th year of the Rockygrass Festival.

Summer Helles created such a buzz among beer drinkers that New Belgium was compelled to bring it out in a larger capacity than just a celebratory libation for a couple festivals.

Grady Hull, who is New Belgium’s assistant brewmaster, talked about the newest summer release for the brewery.

"Helles is a style we’ve always enjoyed playing around with," Hull said. "People really loved it in the festival setting because the drinkability is hard to beat. It pairs well with spicy and savory foods but you could also chase down a butter rum ice cream cone with equally great results."

Some delicious food pairings Summer Helles fits perfectly with are items such as: pork chops, BBQ pork, peaches with couscous and much more. For you fish fanatics, Summer Helles also goes well with grilled trout.

New Belgium's Summer Helles checks into the alcohol by volume rate at 5% flat, with 21 IBUs. The new seasonal is available in 12-oz bottles as well as draft where on tap, lasting through July of this year.
