New 'Batman: Arkham City' game set to release this year says Time Warner

The last time gamers got their chance to take the caped crusader through Arkham City was back in 2011, with Rocksteady Studios "Batman: Arkham City". Sure, we had "Lego Batman 2" released last year, but it wasn't the same gritty feel as "Arkham City."

Of course, fans have been clamoring for the next game in the series, which at one point was rumored to be called "Arkham World". While there's no word on that being the title for the next game, Time Warner is telling people not only is the next game on the way, it's coming this year.

"And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the 'Batman Arkham' franchise," said John K. Martin, the CFO and CAO of Time Warner during the Q4 2012 earnings call.

If you look back at "Batman: Arkham Asylum" which released in 2009, and "Batman: Arkham City", which released in 2011, the time frame for the next game is spot on.

However Variety reported last year that Rocksteady, the team behind these "Batman" games has been working on a Silver Age style Batman game, and wouldn't be seeing a release until 2014. If this is true, a different team could be working on the next "Arkham" game and not Rocksteady, which is sure to ruffle some feathers.

"Batman: Arkham City" is currently available for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo Wii U. That should hold you over until the next game comes out.
