Under the “What is Autism?” Section, find out what autism is and learn, more about Autism Acceptance Month. Autism is a developmental disability that affects how an autistic person thinks, learns, uses their senses, moves their body, communicates, and relates to other people. Between 1 and 2% of people in the United States are thought to have an autism-spectrum diagnosis.

Autism Acceptance Month promotes acceptance of autistic people as family members, sons, daughters, spouses, friends, classmates, co-workers, community members, and fellow-citizens making valuable contributions to our world and communities.

Myths about Autism include:

Autism is contagious. You can't catch autism. Autism is something some people are born with, like blue eyes or red hair or a brain that is very good at some things and has more trouble with others.

Autism is caused by vaccines. Vaccines do not cause autism. Please make sure your kids get their shots.

Autism is a disease. Autism is a developmental disability some people are born with, like dyslexia or Down Syndrome. It is not a disease. It is a difference, and a disability.

Under the “Featured Content” Section, check out ways to read essays on autism acceptance. There is a link right to Amazon.

“Upcoming Events” details workshops, conferences and gatherings highlighting information and autism education, research and more.
