Last week, two organizations announced major calls for proposals for professional artists. If you are a professional visual artist, performer or writer, get your applications ready.
On January 31, Creative Capital announced its call for career opportunity grant proposals for artists working in emerging fields, literature and performing arts. Creative Capital is a national organization providing integrated financial and advisory support to mid-career artists across all disciplines. RFPs are posted every year but alternate between practices (e.g. next year will be visual arts and film/video).
Creative Capital's program is unique in the way that it is concerned with creating sustainable careers for artists - not just giving financial support. It provides a multi-year program that focuses on various aspects of artistic and career development.
Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permenant legal resident, at least 25 years old, have at least five years professional experience in their artistic field and are deeply engaged in their art form. More details can be found in Creative Capital's complete RFP. Letters of inquiry are due March 1.
For a small fee, anyone can check out Creative Capital's upcoming webinar: Art Business Management, presented by Jeffrey Gobson.
McKnight Artist Fellowships for Visual Artists opened for applications last Friday. These fellowships provide $25,000 unrestricted cash awards to grantees who are exceptional mid-career artists. Fellowship recipients meet with local and national art professionals during the year and participate in a group show of the fellows' work at the end of the grant period in MCAD's gallery.

McKnight Fellowship applications are due April 6 at noon. Full details and guidelines can be found on the McKnight Artist Fellowships site.
