The Phoenix Coyotes unveiled, via Twitter on Thursday, their new Arizona Coyotes shoulder patch. On June 29 the Phoenix Coyotes will be re-branded as the Arizona Coyotes. The prior patch was essentially the same as new one but had PHX instead of AZ.

The Coyotes transition from Phoenix to Arizona is a bit more accurate. The Coyotes home den is Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. When the franchise moved from Winnipeg in 1996 they played their home games at American West Arena, now US Airways Center, in downtown Phoenix. In 2003 they headed out to the suburbs of Glendale but maintained their Phoenix roots. Local geography teachers were likely irked by the Coyotes inability to have an accurate locale in their name but moving forward the team is geographically is sound.
