Have you made the trek yet from Raleigh-Durham to Anguilla? No? Then here's your chance at a boutique property much touted when it opened in the fall as the island's newest hotel, and because of the reputation of the new owners. And now, you can stay there at an affordable price - best of both worlds, actually.
With its 27 rooms and suites starting at just $150 for a double eight months of the year - yes, 8 out of 12 months (and from just $250 in winter) - the Anacaona Boutique Hotel lives up to its promise of affordable chic, with amenities you might expect in hotels costing twice as much. Those include Frette linens, Melita/Javapod coffeemakers, iPod docking stations, laptop-size in-room safes and free Wi-Fi.
Consider, too, there are two swimming pools for just 27 rooms, room service on the beach (drinks and eats), Petit Spa, Petite Zazaa Boutique, free loungers, umbrellas and snorkeling equipment.
But the new Anacaona (pronounced an-nah-ky-oh-nah) offers more than just great value. “We aim to be the informal cultural center of Anguilla,” say owners Sue and Robin Ricketts, formerly of the island’s acclaimed Malliouhana Hotel and Cap Juluca, “so guests will be entertained two or three times a week by local musicians, historians, artists and the island’s internationally acclaimed folklore troupe, Mayoumba.”
We definitely have this property on our short list for our next Caribbean getaway from Raleigh.
Special, Introductory Offers
Among several special introductory offers from the hotel, consider:
• “Pay for 5, Stay for 7” - You pay for five nights, and the owners give you seven – two nights on the house for two people sharing any category of room or suite, based on availability. Until March 31 room rates start at $250 a night, but from April 1 through December 16, regular rates start at just $150 a night double (seven nights at $150 a night would normally cost a total of $1,050 but with this special offer the total is only $750, or $107 a night, give or take a cent or two).
• “Anacaona Getaway” - a four-night package that includes two continental breakfasts daily, two dinners for two, massages for two, a bottle of wine on arrival, transfers from and to the point of entry, government tax and service charge -- all for $1,775 double occupancy (standard room) through March 31 but only $1,340 from April 1 through December 16.
• “Amorous Anacaona” - includes all the attractions in “Getaway” (above) but on this seven-night package guests also get a day’s car rental, an evening of dinner-theater with Mayoumba and a boat trip to Prickly Pear islet where TV’s The Bachelor took one of his dates for a romantic picnic, plus a tree with your names planted in the garden (the Bachelor never thought of that one!) – all from $3,150 for two in a standard room through March 31, but only $2,395 from April 1 through December 16.
