Construction crews and equipment will roll into Madison’s Alliant Energy Center, just as horse trailers rumble out after the 2014 Midwest Horse Fair, according to the latest plans for a massive project on the property.
All of the existing barns are marked for demolition and removal, making Midwest Horse Fair’s 2014 exhibitors and their equines the last tenants of the current facilities.
Two brand-new pavilions, totaling 290,000 square feet, will replace those structures. These multi-use buildings will feature year-round use capabilities and increased capacity for housing and showing dairy animals, horses, and other livestock.
The Alliant Energy Center project, which is expected to go up for bids on November 21, 2013, was initially slated to begin after the World Dairy Expo in early October 2013. The construction schedule extends through September 2014.
In October 2014, the World Dairy Expo is to be the first event operating in the new Alliant Energy pavilions. The 2015 Midwest Horse Fair, Dane County Fair, and other upcoming large-scale events will follow.
