"Digby Bertram will have a large selection of jewelry and Casa quartz crystals holding the energy of John of God," explains the e-mail. "Crystals, fingerbracelets (rings), bracelets and pendants featuring these astonishing crystals bathed in the White Light of Heaven that John of God channels in his healings. It is said that the healing energy of John of God is held in this jewelry."
According to his web site, John of God's real name is João Teixeira de Faria, but he is also called João de Deus. A Brazilian medium and faith healer, de Faria has said "I do not cure anybody. God heals, and in his infinite goodness permits the Entities to heal and console my brothers. I am merely an instrument in God’s divine hands."
According to his web site, de Faria has no formal medical training. Instead, he "gives over his consciousness and incorporates the spirits of past doctors and saints. These entities give talks, examine the waiting masses and conduct the visible and invisible operations." In other words, he conducts psychic and physical surgery.
According to Wikipedia, "de Faria tells people not to stop taking their medicine and says not everyone he serves will be cured."
Multiple sources claim that de Faria does not charge for healing and welcomes medical experts to come to his clinic to observe.
New Age People encourages people to come to the event.
"You will have a personal healing experience available to you with this jewelry," the e-mail reads. "Digby will assist you in finding your personal piece. New Age People will be left with only the energy and not the jewelry and crystals when Digby leaves. Try to come and experience this rare opportunity to be a part of the John of God experience."
New Age People is located at the corner of 86th and Ditch, near the Stein Mart.
