Many music lovers begin to plan to take over the city of Austin, TX, the music portion of the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival that takes place from March 11th -16th. In this series of talented music showcases, artists from all genres across the board will be featured during the biggest music festival in the world.
The SXSW festival is legendary for jump-starting the careers for many musicians. The award-winning John Mayer got his big break there when he got signed to his first record label after his showcase at the 2000 SXSW Music Festival. This year, they will feature some of the hottest musicians in the industry right now.
The famous East Coast Rap legends, Mobb Deep, will make an appearance. Mobb Deep hails deep from Queensbridge, NY and they will always be the reigning veterans of hardcore NYC street rap. Check them out on Friday, March 14th at the Holy Mountain. Bay Area rapper, Sage The Gemini, released his hit track 'Gas Pedal' in 2013, taking him to chart-topping appearances on Billboard's list. Check out this fresh artist at SXSW this year on Thursday, March 13 at the Avenue on Congress Rooftop. British Grammy Award winning group, Dirty Vegas, will also make an appearance this year. One of the earlier tastemakers in today's trending EDM, their hit single, 'Days Go By' is now a classic. Catch them on Saturday, March 15th at the Swan Dive Patio. Boys Noize is an innovator in electro house music. His funky, heavy techno house sounds have given him placements alongside artists like Snoop Dogg. Boys Noize will be live at The Majestic on Thursday, March 13th.
The festival has also signed on numerous artists from a diverse range of genres. Hip-hop artists Chance the Rapper, Madlib, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Dam-Funk, Tech N9ne will perform, while Lee Fields and the Expressions will bring soul and R&B/hip-hop, respectively. In the rock category, new additions include former Hüsker Dü frontman Bob Mould, hard rockers Deap Vally and J. Roddy Walston and the Business. Indie groups Warpaint and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and former Girls artist Christopher Owens. Previous 2014 lineup announcements have seen Les Claypool and Charli XCX, alongside Gary Numan and Los Lonely Boys. In past years, big-name artists have been announced at the last minute, including Prince and Justin Timberlake.
