Wow happy New Year! Ask yourself is it really new? What’s new about this year except the calendar? Interesting questions aren’t they? It all serves a purpose you know. This idea of a new year, a holiday season, a summer break, etc. Those purposes are mostly outdated so why do we hold true to them? Depending on your upbringing and experiences in life you can answer this question with ease but for the rest of us the answer isn’t so easy. My daughter, whom I have mentioned in previous articles, asked a great question of me this “holiday season”. She asked a few, like how can the holiday season only be November and December? Why if I would rather not celebrate Christmas do I love Christmas music? Why is the New Year celebrated on 01/01 each year but we say we are going to start anew all throughout the year? Hmmm…as usual her intuitive curiosity has stumped me again. I could only answer a few questions and even those were partial. I posed a question back to her which why don’t you ask your father? All in all I understand her questions I have asked them and actually I am still searching for the answers. I honestly don’t know. Is it hurting anything in the big scheme of things if we hold on to these ideas, holidays, and traditions? I guess not if they have been going on so long without interruption. I guess it really is a personal choice and in that personal choice you have to decide what is right for you as well as your family. Yes then yes that is the answer that I will give it will answer all of her questions neatly and empathetically. Unfortunately it will tell her nothing. So her questions will linger in the Universe and hopefully the universe will answer me first so that I can better answer her. In the meantime I am still befuddled by my original question posed, what’s new about this New Year except the calendar?
