New 24 hour animal hospital opens in Oak Creek

Lakeshore Veterinary Specialists opened their third and newest location in the Milwaukee area on April 2, 2012. Their state-of-the-art, 6,700 square-feet facility is located in Oak Creek with easy access from I-94, just west off the Ryan Road exit at 2400 West Ryan Road.

According to the office manager, Kelly Cronin, the hospital has been quite busy this month since they opened. In fact, the first emergency arrived even before the doors were unlocked and the staff did a wonderful job of making sure that patient received the care they needed. Also, Kelly says the community support has been fantastic. The blanket and toy drive on March 31st was an overwhelming success.

Previously, the Lakeshore group had been providing surgical and internal medicine services to pets out of the Animal ER of Racine & Kenosha since 2007. Now they are able to offer 24/7 emergency and critical care as well as weekly oncology appointments in addition, at one convenient location.

Drs. Brian Teunissen and Jacob Odders are co-owners of the Lakeshore group. In 2011, they purchased the Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, Wisconsin. The original Port Washington facility has been serving the community since 2007. Dr. Odders remarks that, “There is always a veterinarian on the premises and our standard of care includes always taking the time to personally care about each individual pet as a member of the family.” Dr. Teunissen explains that one of Lakeshore’s goals is to “…work closely with family veterinarians across the region, and local pet owners can now take advantage of our collaborative, team approach towards their pet’s medical care.”

If your pet is in need of emergency care, it is best to call ahead if you can, to let the Lakeshore staff know you are on your way. If your veterinarian refers you to Lakeshore for specialty services for your pet, they will send medical records in advance of your appointment so the doctors on staff will be familiar with your pet’s needs.
