Creativity is one of the most important things you can encourage in your child. Luckily, children are naturally creative and curious as they love to explore, experiment, and pretend. And as parents and caregivers, we need to provide our children with the supplies that lead to this inventive and imaginative play. Yes, the basics, such as crayons, paints, safety scissors, and construction paper do well with creative art, but today, the Crayola company has so many new and adventurous art kits that not only teach art fundamentals, but are unique toys as well.

Crayola Marker Maker

What child doesn’t like drawing with markers? But, did you ever think you could make your very own markers? This toy lets the child choose a color from a color mixing chart or create their own unique color marker. With a parent’s help, children can simply mix marker ink colors together and then dip the marker reservoir into the measuring tube to draw in custom ink. Voila - a new marker has been created. Personalized labels can be made with your child’s creative color name. The kit comes with a storage case and enough materials to make 16 markers. Kids ages eight and up can do this project alone. The Marker Maker retails for $24.99.

Crayola Mini Light Designer

This art device fits in a child’s hand and lets them draw and animate their artwork with a lighted art show. Your child can draw on three panels and after they are all placed into this device, not only do the art designs light up they can also come to action by pressing 10 different light animation buttons. The slides can be easily removed and cleaned for creating over and over. The Designer comes with 3 Gel markers and will need 3 AA batteries (not included). The kit retails for $14.99.

Crayola Bead Studio

One of the fads of the season is making jewelry and with this kit, girls can indulge in creating coiled beads using Crayola’s Model Magic (air-drying modeling material). This studio kit includes the bead roller, drying stand, bead punch, plastic needle, 3 pendants, 3 buttons, 2 shape cutters, strings and clasps for necklaces and bracelets, ribbons, glaze and 4 packages of the modeling compound. This is a fun activity for early childhood children to do with a parent or caregiver.

Crayola Create2Destroy: Fortress Invasion Ultimate Destruction Set

This art kit lets boys engage in building a fortress and then role play in battle, only to rebuild it again. Included in this kit is Crayola’s proprietary Morphix dough and 35 molds to build a unique fortress in preparation for battle play. The dough is easy to shape and handle. Store it in its re-sealable tubs to keep it moist and this material can be used over and over again. The kit contains 4 catapults, a play mat, along with the molds and 3 half-pound tubs of Morphix. This art toy retails for $24.99. It’s recommended for children ages four and older.

These are only four of the new toys Crayola has to offer. Check out Crayola’s website or your favorite retail stores for a slew of art kits for holiday and birthday gift giving. Not only are these toys fun to play with, they also help to develop fine motor skills and hand dexterity.
