Virgin America Elevate members now have a new way to earn points through credit card spend. The program has introduced two new credit cards for Elevate members.

Both Virgin America Visa Signature cards offer:

- a $150 annual discount off a companion ticket

- free first checked bag for cardholder

- one companion when you purchase your ticket with your credit card

- 20 percent discount off in-flight purchases of food and drinks or on-demand movies

- points don't expire as long as you are a cardholder.

Cardholders earn three points per $1 spent on Virgin America and one point per $1 spent everywhere else.

The Virgin America Visa Signature card comes with all of the benefits listed above plus a 10,000-point sign up bonus after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days and has a $49 annual fee, not waived the first year.

The Virgin America Premium Visa Signature card comes with a 15,000-point sign up bonus after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days and has a $149 annual fee, not waived the first year.

The Premium card also offers waived change and cancellation fees on nonrefundable fares, although you will need to pay any fare difference in the cost of the flight. Another benefit exclusive to the Premium card is the ability to earn 5,000 status points for every $10,000 spent on the card, up to a maximum of 15,000 status points per year. Plus, you can rollover status points earned above the annual qualification requirement to the following year.
