New $100 bills will be released by the Federal Reserve Board on Oct. 8 of this year, and according to Yahoo! News on Wednesday, some of those bills may be worth far more than the amount printed on the bills.
The bills that will be worth much more than their printed value are those newly designed bills with a serial number that is found to be extremely attractive to people who collect currency for a hobby or profession. For example, when a collector sees a bill with a low serial number, he knows he’s got a bill of great value.
The bills come with an 8-digit serial number, allegedly beginning with 00000001. The bill with that serial number could go for as much as $15,000 according to reports. Of course, there are other combinations of numbers that will be watched for and worth more than their printed value of $100 as well. For example, 88888888 and 12345678 will be eye-catching and unique to the currency-collectors. Collectors tend to like repeating sets of numbers as well, such as 23452345.
As currency collectors know, there will also be more than one of each serial number because the Federal Reserve Bank puts a letter before the letter code, telling at which bank the bill was produced.
