Neville Island ice rink to host ISI competition

More than 150 local skaters are set to compete in a variety of Ice Skating Institute (ISI)-endorsed events at Saturday’s 2013 Shamrock Skate competition held at Neville Island’s Robert Morris University Island Sports Center. Now in its 12th year, this annual recreational ice skating competition will welcome competitors ages 4 to 29 who represent several local rinks including the Island Sports Center, BladeRunners, North Park, the Beaver County Ice Arena, Center Ice Arena, Planet Ice, Ice Connection of Pittsburgh and the Kirk S. Nevin Ice Arena.

Events will run throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Olympic Arena and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the 84 Lumber Arena. Admission to all events is free.

While you’re at the competition, don’t miss your chance to support the Steel City Blades synchronized skating teams who will be providing on-site competition hairstyles with their “Blades, Braids & Buns” team of stylists. Appointments are available from 6:30 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. and can be reserved online by clicking here. Glitter, hairspray, ribbon and bobby pins will be provided; however, for sanitary purposes, all skaters are asked to provide their own comb/brush, scrunchies and any additional embellishments for their desired competition hairstyle. All proceeds from hairstyling will go to the Steel City Blades synchronized skating teams.
