Never sacrifice taste when making healthy and nutritious meals

Expand your thinking when preparing all your favorite dishes. The last thing you want to do is sacrifice the taste and flavor of the foods you prepare for your family. Sometimes making a dish healthier and more nutritious can be as simple as substituting an ingredient from the recipe. Cutting back on some additions or adding something new cannot only create a new recipe but also make it tastier and better for you to eat.

Healthy food choices and cooking tips:

To maximize your daily nutrition intake it is a good practice to include raw vegetables in your diet. They can be eaten as is or added to salads. They also make a great low-calorie snack to munch on between meals or when that urge to nosh strikes you after dinnertime.

Cut down on the amount of salt you cook with as well as the amount of salt you season with after foods are cooked. If you do this gradually you won’t miss the larger amounts of salt you consumed before. A slow reduction allows you palate to adjust to the change slowly so you won’t miss that salty taste making foods healthier for you to eat.

Try experimenting with herbs, spices and lemon juice. These are healthier ways to season foods and still leave them tasting great.

Add more fiber, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins to your meals. Simply include foods such as lentils, peas and beans to salads, soups, stews and casseroles.
