Never a more beautiful you

I haven't known about Jonny Diaz for long, but I quickly became a fan. My favorite song of his is called "More Beautiful You" - a song of particular interest to teenage girls and young women. If you're anything like me, you've all had body issues and your self-esteem is more up and down than any roller coaster at Six Flags. We've all heard the verse that says that "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." (Proverbs 31:30, NIV) The Proverbs 31 Wife of Noble Character is the ultimate woman - strong, resourceful, loved by her husband and family, thought well of by the community, gracious, gentle, hard-working, generous, and kind. It's easy for us to look at that example and tell ourselves that that is what we are striving to be, but let's be honest...when you glance at those magazines at the check-out counter or you see seemingly perfect women wherever you are, that Proverbs 31 woman is not usually what's on your mind right then, is it? Our culture has put so much importance and worth in how good we look or how expensive our clothes are, that we no longer find our worth or identity in Christ.

The Village Church in Flower Mound has a women's Bible study going on right now that is focusing on Genesis chapters 1-11. I studied Genesis at the Christian school that I went to from K-12, but never have I studied it so in-depth and became so aware of what actually took place "in the beginning." When God created man, Genesis 2:7 says that "the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being"; Genesis 1:27 says "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." My point in mentioning these verses in Genesis is so that we know that each of us was made in the image of the most high God - who created all and is in all things. He is the One who created us in His image; how could we then be anything but beautiful?

"The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7b, NIV)
