Miss Nevada USA, Nia Sanchez made history last night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Miss Sanchez became the first contestant in history to take home the title of Miss USA for the state of Nevada. Sanchez is 24 years-old and is from Las Vegas, Nevada. She is a 4th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and has trained for over 12 years.Sanchez began competing in pageants at age 19. She has also been a face character for Disney in both the United States and abroad and has traveled to over 13 countries. Her passion is children and she has also spent time volunteering at local women's shelter Shade Tree. Sanchez herself spent time in a shelter as a small child when her parents were going through a divorce. Her future plans include modeling, teaching and eventually becoming a mother.
Sanchez beat out women from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The runner up in the competition is Miss North Dakota USA, Audra Mari. The rest of the top ten included Brittany Oldehoff, Miss Florida USA 2014; Tiana Griggs, Miss Georgia USA 2014; Taylor Burton, Miss Maryland USA 2014; Cassandra Kunze, Miss California USA 2014; Christina Zapolski, Miss South Carolina USA 2014; Carlyn Bradarich, Miss Iowa USA 2014; Bishara Dorre, Miss Wisconsin USA 2014; and Brittany Guidry, Miss Louisiana USA 2014. Sanchez will compete in the Miss Universe competition later this year. The 2014 Miss USA prize package includes a one year scholarship to the New York Film academy, shoes from Chinese Laundry, one year of spray tans from local Las Vegas company Bold Body Bronzing and more.
