Sharron Angle, the former Nevada Republican candidate for the US Senate who lost to Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) in 2010, has announced that she is endorsing Rick Santorum.
In 2010, Sharron Angle the Tea Party favorite, won her Primary against Sue Lowden who was backed by the Nevada GOP establishment.
With Mitt Romney seen as the GOP establishment candidate, Angles endorsement of Santorum is understandable, even though Newt Gingrich is trying to establish himself as the antiestablishment candidate, when he really isn't.
Sharron Angle issued the following statement to National Review Online:
“Rick Santorum and I have known each other for years. He is a strong fiscal and social conservative who stands on principles above politics. He has never wavered in his support for family values understanding the impact that strong families have on a prosperous economy. His continuous opposition to Amnesty, Obamacare, the bail-outs, and cap and trade are a perfect fit with our main street Tea Party movement.”
Jon Ralston of the Las Vegas Sun reports that a new poll by Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows that Mitt Romney is currently 15-20 points ahead of New Gingrich.
"Romney leads Newt by about 15-20 points. The main suspense may be whether he gets over 50%, he will certainly have a chance. Paul is 3rd and Santorum 4th, both around 15%. The chances of Paul besting Gingrich for 3rd are pretty minuscule,” said pollster Tom Jensen.
Sharron Angle’s endorsement may help Rick Santorum with Nevada Tea Party voters, but her endorsement will have little weight with mainstream republicans or the Mormon voters in Nevada.
